ABOUT US - NATURA FARMS
FARM NAME AND PHILOSOPHY
NATURA Farms, LLC, as the Latin name implies, is indicative of our commitment to work with Nature, to keep the environment clean and healthy, to build soil life and fertility naturally and to grow exceptionally tasty and nutritious produce without toxic pesticides for our mutual wellbeing. Our Food Alliance Midwest eco-label third party certification is further assurance of our commitment to ecological integrity and intrinsic produce quality. Life-giving foods come from living soil! Eco-farmers are the genuine health workers of the world, because “Health comes from the farm, not the pharmacy!” Natura Farms is about health and wellness. We provide our guests, friends and customers with a wide variety of exquisite berries together with tasty and nutritious melons, vegetables, herbs, grapes and apples to nourish their bodies. We do all this in a serene and pleasant environment to refresh our whole being and relieve stress.
FARM HISTORY
NATURA FARMS is a small farm, consisting of 57 acres. We’ve owned and operated it for nearly a quarter century. Before that it was part of a 140-acre dairy farm, in the same family since “white man” took the land over from Native Americans 150 years ago.
We converted the hay fields and pastures into productive berry, orchard, vineyard and vegetable fields, using the techniques farmers have used for centuries to maintain and improve their soil. We’ve doubled the organic matter in the soil and more than doubled the depth of our topsoil. Earthworms love our rich soil – you can literary smell the life in it instead of petrochemical toxins. We’ve practically eliminated soil erosion by wind or water. Elevated organic matter, a multitude of windbreaks and grass middles between rows of berries, grapes and apple trees all help us achieve healthy soil.
Healthy soil is the foundation for healthy plants, healthy people, healthy animals, and a healthy ecosystem. That’s why we go through all the trouble and expense of building a solid foundation for our farm and its health-building produce - living and life-giving soil. Back in 1976 Maynard Murray, M.D., put it this way: “Farmers are really the beginning of preventive medicine. The farm soil – that’s where it starts; that’s what it’s all about.”
Natura Farms is located on the east shores of White Rock Lake in northern Washington County, within the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. It provides a tranquil setting for about 10 acres of park-like majestic oaks and maples for the enjoyment of rural quietness, gentle evening breezes, colorful sunsets, and the soothing, stress-reducing sounds of birds, crickets, frogs and other aquatic life. On these grounds, families enjoy picnics, children romp around the playgrounds, and youth appreciate the baseball diamond, basketball ball and volleyball courts, and an occasional dip in the lake.
OUR MISSION
The Mission of NATURA FARMS is to produce NATURAlly-grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs of superior nutritional quality on live, rich, and fertile soil in order to supply a wide variety of fresh tasty produce for the enjoyment and well-being of its friends and customers on a self-sustaining basis.
FAIR VALUE PRICING
We do not aim to financially compete with cheap imports or industrial agribusiness products shipped from thousands of miles away and produced with slave labor wages on chemicalized soils. We are not monoculturists or mass producers. We value fresh nutritious food too highly to place ourselves in the same camp. We first set our standards, then aim to produce to those standards as efficiently and economically as possible. We’ve spent decades studying health, nutrition and the kind of farming that supports human and ecological wellbeing. We have come to the conclusion that “Health comes from the farm, not the pharmacy.” Our pricing seeks to offer superior value to our guests and customers, while aiming to make natural farming economically sustainable.
